Free will only get you so far.
You will get some traffic with free advertising but your success will be very limited.
During my early days, my advertising budget was zero when I was still in college
and I did not have a job. I was doing this safelist thing in my spare time trying
to make a few bucks.
I have utilized all the free available resources at that time. But whenever I earned
some commissions, I would spend a portion of it on buying upgrades.
I kept rinsing / repeating. Just in a year or two, I amassed sizeable advertising
resource.
I recommend you to take the Affordable Lifetime/Yearly Upgrades at reliable sites
to build your 'base' advertising power then take the monthly upgrades
at the sites that does not offer lifetime/yearly upgrades.
But if you have a bigger advertising budget, do as you wish.
One thing though! Most sites offering a lifetime upgrades usually dies in a year or two.
So your 'lifetime' upgrade is only valid until the lifetime of the program which is a year or two.
Only a few owners who has properly planned out everything and
at the same time created a chance for you to choose an affordable lifetime upgrade.
So choose lifetime upgrades only at sites operated by reliable owners.

It is your LIST. It is where you can get easy traffic and make sales. This is repetitive traffic.
You can follow up and email your list whenever you want.
People in your list are more likely to be interested in what you are offering and buy from you
rather than at an advertising source where they may be wary of buying from a stranger.
That is why you should build your list and use mailers mainly for that purpose.
